LIMITING BELIEFS SERIES (1): So... what’s stopping you? 👇

If you’re not doing something you know you are supposed to, something is stopping you. 🥶 

And I bet you can feel it, even if you can’t figure out where or what it is!

So what is this invisible wall you hit whenever you decide on taking your goals seriously? 😭

These blockers, most often than not, are our limiting beliefs. 🚧

Limiting beliefs = deeply held assumptions about ourselves, others, or the world that restrict us from reaching our full potential.

🚧 I’m just not the kind of person who can succeed at this."

🚧 "People will think I’m foolish if I mess up."

🚧 "I’ll never be able to make enough money doing what I love."

🚧 "I’m too old/too young to start something new."

🚧 "It’s safer not to take risks; I could lose everything."

🚧 "If I were smarter, I could probably do it."

🚧 "People like me just don’t get these kinds of opportunities."

These beliefs often form unconsciously from personal experiences, societal conditioning, or early childhood messages, and they can create barriers to growth in any area of our life.

For example, someone might think “If I were smarter, I could probably do it”. This limiting belief literally creates a mental barrier, a ceiling to what the person can achieve. ⛔

There is just NO WAY you can do something if you don’t even believe it’s possible. Because you deem something as unreachable for you - why even try?

In reality, the world is abundant and your potential is nearly limitless. Your most important asset is your mind. 🧠

🤔 Ok, so how to change this?

Here is the catch with the limiting beliefs - they’re pretty deep down. They’re subconscious.

However, if you pay close attention, you can catch them. 🎣

And once you do that, things change and you can take action to dissolve them.

Here are some ways to identify them:

  • Pay attention to your internal monologue🎧

Your internal monologue is like a playback to your life, really.

Your mind never shuts up and you probably don’t even remember what you were thinking 10 minutes ago. Start practicing catching those little nuggets of negativity and limitation in real-time.

Pay active attention to your thoughts. In the beginning, it might be helpful to literally write down all the limiting thoughts that come up. With time, you will spontaneously develop a whole mental alert system that will fire up on any sign of this limiting nonsense.

  • Examine your patterns of avoidance🏃💨

What do you tend to avoid?

Do you hate public speaking? Do you avoid social gatherings? Do you avoid studying even though you want excellent academic results?

Whatever you’re avoiding, ask yourself - why? Most probably the answer will be your limiting beliefs.

  • Identify generalizations📖

Look for phrases like “I always…” or “I never…” These statements tend to reflect fixed beliefs and may not be true.

Saying and believing these things about yourself only affirms that characteristic.

But, you are not doomed to them, you know? YOU get to change yourself. So don’t use these big everlasting words that overpower your will.

  • Ask ‘Why’ About Goals and Failures📉

We have all failed at some point. So, instead of dwelling on your failures take up the opportunity and reflect on areas where you haven’t met your goals or have given up early.

Limiting beliefs may be hiding in reasons like “The competition is too high anyways” or “It’s too hard.”

  • Notice Physical Responses😵

Our bodies often react when we’re triggered by limiting beliefs. For example, feelings of jealousy or discomfort when someone else succeeds might cause tightness in your chest or a lump in your throat.

These physical responses are often linked to beliefs like “I’m not good enough” or “There’s only so much success to go around.” Recognizing these signs in your body is a clue that deeper beliefs about self-worth or abundance might be at play. When you notice these physical reactions, take an honest look at what’s happening on the inside.

❗❗ Remember, change begins with awareness, and every step you take towards shifting your mindset brings you closer to the life and goals you desire.
